3/3-3/5 Weekly Update

3/3/2025

 
  • There are 3 instructional days left in the 3rd quarter. There are 37 instructional days left until EOG's and EOC's begin. There are 51 days left in the school year. 
  • The Unified Spirit Club Spirit Week will continue this week with the following dress up days: 
    • Monday 3/3- Wear Yellow for Kindness!
    • Tuesday 3/4- Be apart of a Team or Jersey Day!
    • Wednesday 3/5- Wear Neuse Blue!
  • Due to Teacher Workdays Thursday and Friday (3/6 and 3/7), there will be no after school tutoring on Thursday (3/6)! 
  • Parents, teachers have been sending out requests for meetings on Thursday and Friday this week. If you would like to meet with one of your child's teachers, please reach out to them to set up an appointment. 
  • Parents, Mr. Decorris Smith is looking for newspaper donations for a project they will be competing in art class. If you have any old news papers, please send them to school with your child!
  • The next round of 8th grade Science Check-ins will be Wednesday (3/5)
  • Juniors, the ACT is scheduled for March 11th. Parents I sent a letter out last week discussing the importance of the ACT and other upcoming tests. Please know the ACT is a state requirement for all Juniors to participate in. 
  • 7th grader Evelyn Scarboro placed in the top 4 of her division in the NC Aviation Art Contest. Evelyn painted a picture of Bessie Coleman, the first African American female to earn her pilots license. Congratulations to Evelyn and this accomplishment!   • Seniors please send any college acceptance letters or scholarship offering's to Mr. King. He keeps track of the amount of scholarship money offered as well as post secondary plans. 
  • To this point, the senior class has been offered $3,450,246 in scholarship money which is a school record. To celebrate the senior class's accomplishment, I am going to begin a segment called "Senior Spotlight" where each senior will be announced as well as their college acceptances. 
    • Monday 3/3: Eva King was accepted to the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. This is a first in school history so congratulations to her on this feat. Eva wants to pursue a BS in Business Administration or BA in English. Additionally, Eva has been accepted to Campbell, Barton, Aurora, Alabama, the University of Rhode Island, East Tennessee State, and James Madison University. Good luck with making your selection Eva!
    • Tuesday 3/4: Today’s senior spotlight is Isaiah Hernandez. Isaiah wants to pursue a BA in Political Science or BA in History. Isaiah has been accepted to Penn State and Alabama University.​
  • ​The varsity girls basketball team lost in the second round of the playoffs to Wilson Prep. Wilson Prep came into the game with a 24-1 record. The girls were down 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and fought all the way back to make it a 1 point game in the 3rd quarter. The girls team showed a lot of toughness and grit fighting back during the game. Congratulations on a great season girls!

  • There are 8 instructional days left in the 3rd quarter. There are 42 instructional days left until EOG's and EOC's begin. There are 56 days left in the school year. As I explained to my staff Friday in our meeting, this means there are only 12 instructional hours per class in the 3rd quarter. Each day matters!
  • The Unified Club spirit week will begin this Thursday 2/27. The spirit week ends on Wednesday 3/5 which is Spread the Word Day for Inclusion. The days for each spirit day are seen below:
    • Thursday 2/27: PJ Day
    • Friday 2/28: Be Unique Day
    • Monday 3/3: Wear Yellow Day
    • Tuesday 3/4: Jersey or Sports T-shirt Day
    • Wednesday: Spread the Word by Wearing Blue Day
  • Parents, teachers should be reaching out to you to request a Parent Teacher meeting on Thursday 3/6 or Friday 3/7. If you have any concerns in regards to your child's academic progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to them. 
  • There will be an EC inclusion night on Wednesday after school. The inclusion night will begin at 3:30 and it will cover transitions from the Lower Academy to the Upper Academy as well as 8th grade to 9th grade. 
  • Josh Lemke is participating in the Wrestling State Championship in Greensboro. He arrived in Greensboro yesterday and will be wrestling matches today. Good luck to Josh!
  • The high school boys and girls basketball teams will be participating in the state playoffs on Tuesday night. The boys team will travel to North Hampton County High School while the girls team will play East Columbus at home. Both games start at 6:00. 
  • Middle and High school spring sports also begin this week.

2/17-2/21 Weekly Update

2/16/2025

 
  • Monday 2/17 is a teacher workday day.
  • There are 12 instructional days left in the 3rd quarter. There are 46 instructional days left until EOG's and EOC's begin. There are 56 days left in the school year. As I explained to my staff Friday in our meeting, this means there are only 12 instructional hours per class in the 3rd quarter. Each day matters!
  • We hope to see as many community members as possible at the County Commissioners meeting on Monday at 6:00 PM. Lets show how strong our Neuse Charter community is!
  • There is a high school and middle school spring sports meet scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 in the main gym. 
  • The 10th grade Pre-ACT is February 27. The 11th grade ACT is March 11. Both of these tests are a requirement for all 10th and 11th Grade. 
  • The PSAT is April 21. If students are interested in taking the PSAT please reach out to our Testing Coordinator, Anna Fowler. 
  • The next 8th grade science check-in will be on March 5th. 
  • Parents please be on the lookout for teachers who will be setting up Parent Teacher conferences on March 6th and 7th. Parents if you are interested in setting up a meeting with your child's teachers, please do not hesitate to reach out. 
  • Parents please be on the lookout for a letter from Ms. Fowler discussing the importance of each of these tests. 
  • There will be an EC transition night on February 26th. Ms. Johnson will be reaching out with more information regarding this community night!
  • This past weekend, NCS had four wrestlers compete in the Regional Championships at Rosewood high school. Wrestlers Matthew Galavotti, Ryan Murphy, William Denning, and Josh Lemke strongly represented NCS. 
  • As a sophomore, Josh Lemke finished in the top 4 out of 16 wrestlers in the Regional Championships and will be moving onto the State Championship this weekend! Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed this weekend! Good luck at the state tournament Josh!

  • There are 21 instructional days left in the 3rd quarter. There are 58 instructional days left until EOG and EOC testing being. There are 65 days left in the school year. Please ensure your child is coming to school daily so they do not fall behind on instruction. 
  • The middle school dance sponsored by Start With Hello club will be this afternoon!
  • If you received an invitation for grades 6-8 tutoring, please respond to the google form by Tuesday 2/11 to save your spot!
  • Starting this week the counseling department will begin with a Kindness and Compliment Wall going up in the commons. If you’d like to submit a compliment or acknowledge someone’s kind act, you can submit a Google form online to add that person to our wall. Please look for an email from Mrs. McGinnis to submit. Let’s see those compliments! Special thanks to 6th grader Addyson Cook for her help with this project.

Disney Band Trip!

The middle and high school band took a trip to Disney World last Thursday (1/30) to Monday (2/3). The band students participated in the Imagination Station Soundtrack Workshop! It was a wonderful and challenging experience for the students. Below is a slideshow of pictures from the trip!

MIddle school dance 2/10

The  Starts With Hello is happy to be sponsoring a Middle School “Winter Wonderland Dance” on Monday, February 10th directly after school to 5 pm.  Tickets are $10 and are available through GoFan. Tickets include admission to the dance, pizza, drink chips, and a souvenir Polaroid picture.

  • On Wednesday 2/26, I sent an email our regarding the Celebrate Smithfield International Culture Fair. The flyer for the fair will be attached below. The fair is on Saturday March 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. 
  • Seniors, please submit your college acceptances and scholarship offerings to Mr. King! I also want to include any post secondary plans you may have that would not necessarily include college acceptances. I want to begin announcing your accomplishments on the morning announcements but I need your information! 
  • 7th Grader Evelyn Scarboro played in the top 4 of her division for the NC Aviation Art Contest. The theme of the contest was Women With Wings sponsored by NCDOT Aviation Workforce Programs.   • Mr. Decorris Smith, our art teacher, is asking for any Newspaper donations to be turned into him for a project. 
  • The ACT will take place on Tuesday March 11th, 2025. All 11th grade students need to be in attendance that morning for this state mandated test. 
  • The second round of 8th Grade Science NC Check-in's will be Wednesday March 5th, 2025. ​
  • To this point, the senior class has been offered $3,182,646 in scholarship money. This is the new school record! To highlight some of our senior accomplishments, I am going to begin announcing each seniors college acceptances and post secondary plans (regardless if it includes college). Please send all college acceptance letters, post secondary plans, and scholarship offerings to Mr. King.

  • The girls basketball team lost in the second round of the state playoffs to Wilson Prep Friday night. The girls were down 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and fought all the way back to make it a one point game in the 3rd quarter. The final score of the game was 53-43.
