I hope this email finds you well and warm! As we roll into the new year, we have had many wonderful learning experiences this week. NCS thrives on family engagement and having volunteers. If you want to volunteer at NCS, please sign up and complete the following form. Students in grades K-3 are currently being assessed in reading through MClass. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about this. On Wednesday, Jan 15, 2025 we will have our MAP awards for students in grades K-8. This awards ceremony was by invitation only. If you are unsure if you received an invitation, please contact your child's teacher. Early Registration is open for the fantastic Girls on the Run program grades 3-5! Please sign up using the following link: https://www.gotrtriangle.org/3rd-5th-grade-program-details On January 13th, students in grades 9-12 will participate in NCS Homecoming Week. Each NCS student and family is invited to attend the NCS basketball games starting at 4:30 on Friday, January 17th. Admission to the games is $7.00. Students in grades K-5 are welcome to join in on the NCS spirit and participate in the following activities: As the holiday season approaches, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for being an essential part of our school community. Your support and encouragement have made this year truly special for our students. May your holidays be filled with joy, love, and laughter, and may the new year bring peace and happiness to your family. We look forward to continuing this journey together, nurturing the growth and success of every student. The deadline to re-enroll your student for the 2025-2026 school year is Tuesday, December 17th. Please be sure to complete this form by December 17th to secure your student's seat. After December 18th, your student's seat may be placed in the 2025-2026 enrollment lottery held on January 16th, 2025. I want to congratulate the following students for receiving the Character Trait Award for November. GRATITUDE:
Students will receive report cards on Tuesday, December 17th, and begin winter break on Wednesday, December 18th. The new semester will start on Monday, January 6th! Our Girls on The RUN team participated in a very cold and fun 5k in Cary on December 7th. Way to go, GIRLS! We are so proud of you! Thank you to Mrs. Conley, Mrs. Bursiewicz, and Mrs. Pilkington for your dedication to this excellent program. The new season begins in February!  As the winter chill settles in early, we hope this message finds you warm and well. The Lower Academy is bustling with learning and excitement. Our teachers and staff are working hard to ensure that every child's needs are met every day.
When you are out and about, please visit our NCS tree at the Johnston Medical Mall. You may see a face or two of a smiling staff or student you know! As we teach and model gratitude for our students, I challenge you to watch this short video and complete this exercise. Teachers will help deliver the training and engage your students in a brief video to reinforce and grow the “Say Something” message. There are three prominent themes addressed in this: Say Something training module: 1. The identification of warning signs. 2. The identification of Trusted Adults in the school community. 3. The celebratory message of being an upstander in the school community. When students return from the break, Map testing will begin. It is imperative that your student be present on the day the test is given. Please make sure your student is well-rested and has a charged device. Map Test Schedule:

We have so much to be thankful for! To show our gratitude and thanks for NCS I am asking that each family fill out the Google Form and let us know what you are thankful for here at our wonderful school! We will share these over the next couple of weeks and spread an attitude of gratitude. Last week, we had the amazing opportunity to participate in an Anti-Bullying Assembly! During grade-level enhancements, Mrs. Michael shared the importance of being an Upstander and an awesome human being. Thank you so much, Mrs. Michael, for your hard work and for creating this event! In the words of Kid President, "If it doesn't make the world better, don't do it!" Thank you Smithfield Fire Department for taking the time to teach our Kindergartners about fire safety! Your efforts help equip them with essential knowledge and skills that will keep them safe. We truly appreciate your dedication to our children's well-being! Thank you so much to everyone who donated items to our Treats for Staff! It was a huge success and everyone enjoyed their treats!
