11/13/2019 SGA Hosts 2019 Powder PuffBy: Naeem Davis Every year the Senior Academy votes for their Student Government Association to help create, plan, and organize student-led events at the school. This year, Senior Tylyia Triggs won the presidential election and wanted to implement as many fun events as possible. Tylyia and the rest of the SGA came up with the idea to host a Powder Puff game for the students to participate in and to help out the Neuse community. Ultimately the event raised over 600 cans for the school! “I remember doing the powderpuff my 10th-grade year and I remembered how fun it was to get involved with events in the school. This year as President of SGA I campaigned to change the culture of our school. A school is what you make it and I wanted to add some more school spirit to ours.” says Tylyia Triggs. Although Neuse Charter does not have a football team, the SGA was dedicated to having a game for all students to participate in. Having only a month to plan, prepare, and promote Powder Puff, SGA worked hard to set this event up. A Powder Puff game is a twist on normal football games. Instead of having the boys play and the girls cheer, the girls played in the game and the boys cheered! Each team was given time to practice and prepare themselves to have the opportunity to immortalize themselves at the school. ![]() Each grade represented one of the created teams, the “Lady Cougars”, “Inferno”, “Her-icanes”, and the “Cute and Deadly”. Each team battled against each other in 8-minute rounds to see which team would come out on top. The winning teams from the first two rounds would go up against each other to see which team would get the crown and the losing teams would go up against each other to see who would get third place. Ultimately, the team “Inferno” came out on top and will be known as the Powder Puff champions for the 2019 school year! Comments are closed.
